Armistead Maupin has just released book 7 in the Tales of the City series!!
I haven't bought it, yet, but I guarantee I will soon! (I just read about it like 5 minutes ago...)
Also in breaking news, I read an article about the Dyson Airblade. Apparently he's done vacuums, and now is moving on to public hand dryers. I have already used one!
I was at the Providence Place mall over the weekend (on a date, see posting below) and I used the restroom off the food court. There were these odd-looking things mounted on the wall. At first, I thought it looked like something to strap babies in while you're peeing, but it said "Dyson Airblade" on it. It claimed to be a fantabulous new way to dry your hands in a public bathroom! Being fond of fabulosity, I decided to give it a whirl! I was duly impressed. It's basically the same concept as the car wash dryers that blow the water back as you drive through, but it is faster and more fun than the normal blow-dryer style ones.
The article implied that a residential version is under development. At $1500 for a commercial one, I'm not sure I'll get one, but it would be kinda cool!

Busy weekend
Friday night I worked at the club. None of my friends were really there, but it was a slow night overall. The sexy older guy I had been hoping to bump into was there, though. But he was with the husband, again. Sigh...
Saturday night was a pretty busy night, and a lot of my friends were there, too. Even psycho ex was there! Not that he even looked at me, which is fine. A number of random cuties were there, as well. Most of them are taken, but still fun to watch. The one available cutie will be known as Shirtless Confused Brazilian. Yes, yes, yes... Somewhat of a girl-chaser ('confused'), always spends the entire night sans shirt knowing fully well that everyone is looking ('shirtless'), and associates with known Brazilians, is dark skinned, and reminds me of Mateus ('Brazilian'). Though I think I would choose Mateus over SCB, I have more opportunity here. He shook my hand and caught my gaze on the way out at the end of the night. Yummmmm.
But the bigger news relates to the Lebanese guy from Tuesday. (In honor of the Brazilian Bottom Boy's "BBB" moniker, we will label this one "LBB"!) We had tentatively agreed to meet up on Sunday. Saturday he called and suggested I come down to his place after work that night, and then we could go to PTown on Sunday. Now, the thought running through my mind was that he was a little nervous about how 'quickly' things progressed on the first date, and here he was suggested a weekend in PTown together as a second date. I ran it past a couple friends, and they agreed it was a little strange.
I was thinking that if any of the cuties wanted to hook up that night, I'd postpone LBB until Sunday, but none of them did. Even SCB didn't propose anything specific.
[sidenote: that iTunes ad just came on again with like sketchbookized Paul McCartney playing a ukelele and singing some overly cutesy song - am I the only one that thinks he looks really creepy, like Michael Jackson creepy, in that ad? And subsequently that I would not be swayed to buy anything that is being pushed in that ad...]
So, in the end, I drove to LBB's house Saturday night. Got there at 3am. We rather quickly ended up in the bedroom. He made a "wanna ride my cock" comment, so I said sure, grab the condoms and lube. As he brings them out, he hands it to me. Uhhhhhh. To make matters worse, the lube was in an "equate" brand tube, and I swear the condom wrapper sounded like paper when he opened it, and felt like a Halloween mask going on. Not going well, but I'm still managing to maintain "interest" in the event. Then he says the four cringe-inducing words to kill any first time experience. Take a guess. Go ahead. You know you've had those situations, too.
He said "make love to me" as I was working on doing something I'm not terribly fond of in the first place (it should be ME not him!). That's quite a buzzkill.
That basically ended the evening's festivities, so I took a shower, and we went to sleep. In the morning, we tried again, but I steered away from the condom situations entirely. (I must say, he had a curved penis that fits PERFECTLY inside a throat when in the 69 position. Who'd have thought!!) I had kind of already committed to hanging out for the day. We had breakfast, went to Providence Place (got a yummy Yankee Candle for half off!!), went to see Fantastic Four (they put in a gratuitous shirtless Chris Evans scene - Thank You!!), hung out for a while, had dinner, then I was getting tired and came home.
He's getting clingy and relationshippy already. I'm going to have to gently end it over the next few days.

Atypical Tuesday
Normally, I go to the gym on Tuesdays. Blah.
Tonight I had a date. Not blah!
His name is Rob, he's in the Providence area, and he agreed to meet up in MA. He said "half-way" but the shopping center we met at is WAY closer to me... It was his suggestion, so who am I to say no!
I thought he was attractive. Somewhat beefy (in the thick biceps way), nice hands, hairy chest, bald head. He is Lebanese, and has been living a straight cover life until rather recently. He has embraced his gayness, but is still somewhat inexperienced. And for those of you keeping track, my attraction to straight guys is usually a bad thing, but in this case, the sensors were tripped but he was still available.
We ended up messing around on my couch, and even got off. He's a good kisser, and was really into me. He was rather worried that since we "hooked up" on the first date, that I wouldn't call him again. I assured him that I would call again. I did have a nice time, and he likes to travel!
Yes, that is ominous music you already hear... I made the - ever hopeful - comment that since he was with a lot of women until recently that I would guess he prefers being a top. He said no. He is a big o' bottom. (It's "BBB" all over again!!) I asked how the sex with women worked. He dodged. He asked if that would be a problem. I said that IF we were to date, then that situation is often what leads others to Open Relationships. He was like "Oh, you want an open relationship?!?" I tried to explain that was NOT what I said.
So, this may get complicated. Why do my attempts at relationships all either end in flames in the first 5 seconds or turn into hydra??

Hooray
Not much has been going on lately.
The only news is that I stepped on the scale at work today and was very excited to see 165 on the read-out!!
No more muffin tops...

Well, I suppose I should post SOMETHING about my birthday...
Saturday I turned 33. No big deal, really. I've never had anybody throw me a surprise party for my birthday, or anything grand like that. The two birthdays I had a boyfriend for, neither of them did anything, either. Last year, I even had to make Ronny dinner because he forgot it was my birthday. This year, I ended up taking care of Ronny again...
I had taken the night off from the club, and just put 'out of town'. It was Pride in Boston, but it was raining again. I was over by a friend's house, with a couple people playing games. Brad decided that he wanted to head into Boston that night to go out clubbing. I decided to go along. Eventually we settled on Avalon (normally straight on Sat's, but in honor of Pride, it was gay). After driving to Boston with Brad, Ronny, and Junio (yes, really) we waited in line to get in, but they wouldn't accept Ronny's ID, so we ended up heading back home. We went to the club. Brad was actually happy about it, because Cris met up with us there. Ronny, however, was a mess; all mopey and depressed because he 'ruined our evening'. After about 15 minutes, I finally made him realize that he was still ruining our evening. About 15 seconds after I talked him into joining the fun, he was making out with this guy named Jaime. Whose birthday is this anyway...

Security, part 2
I worked again this weekend. And I got my paycheck for last weekend. $65!! Wuhoo!! But, it's not really about the money. It's about the boys...
So, the real story is (as you would expect) about the Brazilians. But not until Saturday. Friday night was DEAD. Nobody there at all. But the flood light for the smoking patio out back was on the fritz, so we strung yellow and red Christmas lights all around, and set out a light-display palm tree. Everybody liked that WAY better than the motion sensor flood light, anyway.
Saturday night was also pretty slow. I was wandering around, and I saw Carlos (flirty and cute, but flaky and hard to get a committed response out of)there. He asked if I was alone, and I told him I was working there now. He asked if that meant I can't dance, and I said yes. He said that means I can't kiss, either. I quickly pointed out that I definitely can still kiss. So, I asked if he was there alone, and he said he's meeting some friends. Then said, "...Junio...." I pointed out that I know Junio. Then asked if HE can kiss. He got all bashful, and said he'd kiss me later.
Brad and Cris showed up, with my friend Phil, who had come down to Worcester to play board games all afternoon with us. Then Junio and Cristiano came. I asked where Kevin was, and Junio said "He went to bed because he has to work early in the morning, so I am FREE!" And gave me a kind of wink-wink look. But then spent the rest of the night looking sheepish and awkward.
Meanwhile, Carlos wouldn't kiss me, ostensibly because I would get fired if the boss caught me. I tried to explain they wouldn't really care. In fact, they might encourage it... (OH, side note: Friday night, the boss was hitting on me. He was rather intoxicated. I said I thought he was seeing one of the bartenders, and he said, oh they're just friends. Saturday night, I asked someone else about those two, and I was told, surprisedly, that everybody else thought they were together, too. Saturday, the boss apologized for his drunken behavior the night before. I said it didn't bother me at all.)
Later in the evening, I was talking to Carlos again. He asked who I lived with, and I said I live alone. So, he said he'd sleep at my place tonight. I had to hesitate, because Phil was planning to crash at my place. I said a friend was staying over, and he got all indignant looking, so I clarified that he is Just A Friend. I even said he could ask Brad if he wanted to check. So, he ran straight over to Brad and asked him. But he decided not to come over to my house, anyway.
The Brazilians all left right about 2. As they were pushing people toward the door, I went to tell Phil I would be done about quarter after if wanted to just wait outside. He said he would just drive home because he still needed to pack for an early flight on Sunday. So, we said good-night, and I went back to work. But once again, luck was conspiring against me. Carlos didn't come over because Phil would be there, but then Phil decided not to crash, but Carlos had already left, so I didn't get to tell him. He probably wouldn't have come over, anyway.
So, I was all alone again last night. And I never even got the kiss. He did the peck on the cheek. I said, No, on the lips, and he got all bashful and evasive again. What's it gonna take???

Nut case
I read an article today about a court case in Georgia. Some right-wing nut job sued the school board to ban the Harry Potter series of books. She believed they were promoting a lifestyle of witchcraft to young children. The case has worked its way up to the Georgia State Supreme Court because she won't accept all the verdicts that say she's a nut case.
They are fully expecting her to appeal again. The article on ABCnews.com ended with the following two lines:
The reporter obviously caught the hypocrisy. The scary part is that the religious nut cases don't. They don't really want separation of church and state, they want separation of churches they don't like, and state.
They are fully expecting her to appeal again. The article on ABCnews.com ended with the following two lines:
At Tuesday's hearing, Mallory argued in part that witchcraft is a religion practiced by some people and, therefore, the books should be banned because reading them in school violates the constitutional separation of church and state.
"I have a dream that God will be welcomed back in our schools again," Mallory said. "I think we need him."

Bouncer
This was my first weekend on security detail at the club. My intent is to work front door, and maybe eventually bartend. But they start you out on simpler things until they know how well they can trust you. So, I was on back door Friday (making sure nobody sneaks into the club through the smoking patio) and roaming Saturday (keep an eye on the crowd to watch for trouble, drunks, etc.). There was really nothing serious that happened. The most I had to do was wake someone up that fell asleep on the couch. There were no fights, and only a couple sloppy drunks.
Friday night, a group of the Brazilians showed up. Junio and Cris were included. Kevin was there, too, so Junio was friendly but had that look of "sorry, I wish things were different" in his eyes. Cris was dancing with them, and having fun, and was surprised that I was working there. I had forgotten to mention it to them. I told him I'd be there Saturday, as well.
Saturday, a group of the Brazilians showed up, again. Ronny was there this time. He seemed to think the job was too 'boring' for me to do. I kind of missed being able to dance with them, but it was still an interesting way to spend the evening. Brad and Cris came in, and I said Hi, then wandered back to keeping an eye on things. A while later, I wandered into the front bar, and Brad was sitting there with a friend having a drink. I stopped by to chat a little (the roaming guy can do a fair amount of visiting), and Brad was like "why aren't you dancing?" I laughed and pointed to the embroidery on the shirt, and said "I'm on duty." He was surprised. He was not aware I was working there now. I replied that I had told Cris last night. Brad got rather serious, and asked,
"So, Cris was here last night??"
"Uhh, well, yeah." (At that point there was no reason for me to lie.)
"Hmmm, that's funny. Because when I asked him today if he'd been here last night, he said no."
"Ohhhhh, I'm sorry."
"No, no. He lied. Right to my face."
They left, fairly suddenly, shorty thereafter. Ronny came up to me, all concerned, and was like "you TOLD Brad that Cris was here last night? You never tell Brad..."
I explained it was an accident, that I just mentioned that Cris knew I was working already on Friday.
I feel really bad about the whole thing. I mean, I know that I didn't do anything wrong, but I was still the spark that led to another fight. As Brad's friend, I'm concerned about him. As someone quietly harboring feelings for Cris, I must admit there is a little piece of me that would be happy if they broke up. Again, as Brad's friend, if I did hook up with Cris, that would probably blow Brad's mind a little too much to maintain a friendship with me. And, especially now, since I could be viewed as prodding the break-up.

Frustrated
Two weeks ago, I had two phone interviews. One led to a face-to-face interview. I have not heard back from either one. I should have by now. Which means I was passed over. They could have at least had the decency to tell me.
And, it has been eons since my last showing, so I am biting the bullet and pulling the listing. I called the realtor and gave a de-list date so I can refinance and cut my payment. I would so much rather have just sold the F(*#^$(*&^@$)@&*@(*ing place, but I am still here, so time for plan B, I guess.
And in follow up to a previous comment I made about getting to go out on a date, that never happened either. He switched to calling while I was at work, which is an evasive move. So, I emailed a "hey I'll be around this weekend, let's plan something" and never heard back again. So, yet once again I got dumped before even meeting.
Sometimes I just can't take it...

Work work work
I got a part-time job!
Thursday night, my friend Joe called and said let's hang out! We ended up at the club for a drink. He works there, bartending and barbacking. As we were visiting, enjoying our beverages, he was also talking with the bartender, who had quit the day before, and was just filling in for someone. Joe suddenly got a flash of inspiration, and had the barkeep hand over the application forms. He said they are rather short-staffed right now because a couple people left, and they were a little desperate for help.
Joe started as a barback and had to work his way up to bartending. I told Joe I had no interest in barbacking, and he said they needed someone on door, too. So, I figured, ehh what the hell. I filled out the application (my masters in engineering coming to good use!), and entered door/bartend in desired position.
Friday afternoon the owner called and we set up an interview for Saturday afternoon. I stopped by, interviewed with Ron (kind of co-manager) and then the owner. They liked me and offered me the job on the spot! He said he still had to put next week's schedule together, but would call me to let me know when I should come in.
Saturday night was the game night. Dave (bit player mentioned previously) was there with his roommate, Vinny. Vinny apparently also works there, and is dating the owner. So, I already know a couple people there! After game night started winding down, a bunch of us all went to the club. Joe was barbacking, and at one point dragged me in the back, and showed me the new work schedule. So, I am on the "security" list for Friday and Saturday, 10pm to close. I do not know at this point what exactly I will be doing. It did sound like they were more interested in putting me on the door (one of the "security" posts) instead of strict security (gay clubs don't really need "bouncers" since there are rarely any fights). The fact that I have a decent day job, and don't Need the money makes me less likely to steal from the till!! The owner also has an engineering degree (from WPI - but I didn't sneer in front of him during the interview...) and a materials QC background, so we had that instant BOND! Too bad I didn't realize at that point that I somewhat even knew his boyfriend.

Games we Play
Saturday night was another gay men game night. This one was at Brad's house. I invited my friend Phil, because I know he likes playing various games. It turns out he was kinda into Brad. Tall, blonde, geeky, and into board games was quite his type. Having already hear about my side interest in Cris, (who Phil agreed is quite attractive) Phil decided we need to break them up! They were actually fighting again last night, and at one point Brad expressed his exasperation. So, who knows where anything there will end up.
Cris apparently also invited ALL the Brazilians, because they all showed up, too. Including Junio, who was very quick to point out that his bf was coming later.
Phil was wearing a tight black T-shirt that said "Keep it Gay!", and a number of people took the opportunity to touch his chest. The first being Ronny. (Numerous people have noticed that he can be a bit touchy-feely.) I wasn't really paying it much attention, though. All of a sudden, I didn't see Phil anywhere. Then I realized I didn't see Ronny anywhere. I mentioned I didn't see either of them. Dave (secondary character, don't worry about it) wandered down the hall, and saw them making out in the 'den'. He's just like "Don't go back there..." I had a feeling that once I couldn't find them, that something like that was going on. But my reaction was just "it doesn't make sense"! I was a little confused. As my friend, Phil was always doing the "he's not good enough for you" schtick that your friends do for you after a break-up. Phil can be rather acid-tongued, though, so I thought it was fairly true that he disliked Ronny. Apparently not... Ronny had also been fairly unimpressed when they had met, but must have seen him in a different light this weekend.
The three of us went to IHOP this morning. Phil asked if it was "weird" for me, and I said Oh yea. He asked if it was inappropriate, and I said, no not really.
But yeah, definitely kind of weird.
Though, Phil did say the Ronny thing would be more a fun time thing, while the Brad interest was more compatibility-driven. Phil had brought a bag full of games to the game night, and as Brad was looking through, he exclaimed, "Oh you have 'Diplomacy'!" Phil replied in surprise, "You've played that before?? I rarely meet anyone to play that!" Brad said "I HAVE that game!" I think that was moment Phil was smitten.

Brazilian redux
I should have posted this already, but seemed to keep forgetting about it.
For those of you keeping track of my Brazilian escapades, last Friday's activities were followed up on Sunday by some socializing. (Friday Recap: flirted heavily with Carlos who is kind of flaky, and with Junio who is taken. Also, Cris was a lot more touchy/feely than usual. I didn't mention this before, but it was a little odd. The other night at the club I accidentally almost Kissed him instead of the meaningless kiss-kiss that goes with gay greetings and partings. I didn't think he noticed, but since then, he's been more approaching, and Ronny out of the blue asked if I Like Cris.)
Saturday I joined Brad and Cris, Ronny, and Brad's friend Rick for tapas, and then we watched a movie. I stayed home after they left, but apparently Ronny and Cris went to the club again. I figure I probably didn't need to be around Cris again without Brad there, anyway. So, Sunday I went to the gym and bought groceries, and called Mom (that was Mother's Day). Ronny called to let me know he wasn't working, and we could hang out if I wanted. I got bored that afternoon so called him back and said I needed to go to Target, we could stop by Coldstone Creamery if he wanted. He said Junio wanted to go, too.
So, Ronny and I went over by Junio's to pick him up. His roomie, Cristiano (not to be confused with Cris of "Brad and Cris") then decided to come too. The four of us headed to Coldstone, but with that big of a crowd, I didn't go to Target. Maybe tomorrow I'll do that... The ice cream place is next to a movie theater, so they started clamoring for a movie. There is nothing playing right now that I want to see, so I talked them into going back to my place to watch a movie. (Already seen Spiderman, for those of you about to object.)
On the drive back, Cristiano rubbed my head and said something along the lines of "how soft". Ronny then rubbed my head, too. They told Junio to rub it, but he wouldn't. They were like C'mon, and he said he couldn't. When pressed as to why he can't rub my head, he said if he did that he'd get a hardon. To which I replied, "So?" My first thought was that I was driving, he was in the back seat with his roommate, and there wasn't anything that could happen anyway, so it didn't matter. I did realize that it could be interpreted as meaning I wanted him to. I kind of did. He repeated that he has a boyfriend.
Back at my place, they decide to watch To Wong Foo, and I ended up on the couch next to Junio. He seemed rather awkward / uncomfortable, but kept asking me if I was OK. So, nothing happened. He was there with his roommate, and I dropped them off at home, and I think he mentioned his boyfriend again. Sort of like a talisman... And I know what everyone will say about the whole Brazilian thing ("NO"), but I am not gettin' much attention from anyone these days, so I am not going to turn away any flirtation or displays of interest.

Feel Like Dancin'
Went out to the club again tonight. I called Brad, he said they might go out, so I called Joe, he put me on guest list. Then Brad called, said Cris hadn't shown up, so I said well how about the two of us just go out and have a drink. He said Yeah. But then at 10:30, Cris did show up, so I met up with the both of them at the club. Brad stayed at the bar and played on the little video touch game thing and drank, while I danced my little heart out, again, surrounded by Brazilians. (Oh, like you're SURPRISED...)
Carlos showed up, as did Junio. Junio was being flirty, and I decided to be flirty right back. He mentioned he "has a boyfriend" and I said I knew. He said he "couldn't ..." and I said I knew. But as we all left he said "Call me". I mentioned I don't have his number, and he said to get it from Cris. I said he should tell Cris to give it to me, so he knows it's OK. (I still don't have Mateus' number because Cris won't give it out without Permission.)
I was trying to be flirty with Carlos, as well. He was there with some guy, Philipe, but I am not sure if they are together or just friends. They seemed to stick together a lot, but then during the stripper show, I started gently brushing my hand against him, and he leaned back into me, and I held him through the show. And Philipe was right there next to us. But then later when I said "Pode falar conmigo?" (can you talk with me?) he said yes, but then got up, and pulled me over to the dance floor, and drifted away. Mixed messages... He exclaimed, again, how cute my dimple is (yes, just the one), but would not move beyond scattered flirting.
And this older hot guy whom I met at a party once, and see at the gym now and then, was there. He seemed by himself this time. (He was coupled when I first met him.) I think he was checking me out, but then he disappeared as well. Sadly, that usually means he went to go smoke. I saw him talking with one of the Brazilians, which only confirmed my suspicions... (Again, you should not be surprised.) Hopefully I will bump into him at the gym, and can say hello. Of course, it will take a surge of chutzpa to get myself to say hello. I can only seem to manage that trick once every three years or so (the cruise director being the most obvious instance, and that was blatantly assisted by alcohol).
On the positive side, I burned a hell of a lot of calories! Last week I stepped on the scale again, and it was 168 (I told you!). Today I checked again, and one said 167, with a little fluttering towards 166, and the other scale said 166.5 pounds. I have been eating fairly well this week (after an ice cream attack on Monday). Losing a couple pounds also aids the chutzpa. The fatter I think I am, the more shy I get.

Boston
Last night was Nish's 30th birthday party. (I found this great card - the front has a classic calla lily photo and a nice script saying something about "My deepest sympathy in this difficult time" and just says Happy Birthday inside! It totally has that sympathy card vibe going, I laughed when I read it!!)
Originally, Mark had scheduled to have it at Machine (gay club in Boston). But then a friend offered to host, and they moved it to Bel's house. He's Brazilian, and good friends with Sergio. I debated not going, because I figured Sergio would be there, and things are still awkward. I tried reconnecting as friends, figuring it would be therapeutic, and help relieve the tension, allowing me to hang out with Nish and Mark in Boston more often. But Sergio has not replied to me in two months, so it's still rather awkward...
I did end up going. I decided to be a man, and deal with it. For Nish... But it turns out Sergio didn't show up anyway. He did come up in conversation a few times, since a number of people there - including Bel - knew the history. And Bel was telling me how he tried to get Sergio to reconsider breaking up with me because he thought it was a dumb idea. But, he admits, Sergio is rather unhappy, confused, and doesn't know what he wants out of life, so seems to need to be unhappy. It was very similar to what I said to Sergio when he dumped me...
A lot of gay guys were there. I found two of them cute. Scottie, who is white and very skinny, was the first. He has a pet mini greyhound, and totally fits the axiom of pet owners looking like their pets. He (true to form) is in a relationship; his boyfriend was back home, studying. But fear not, I have not completely lost my old habits. The second one, Derek, was a cute black boy! He, however, was there with his boyfriend, who just moved in with him. So, I scored two for two on being interested in the unavailable ones! Bel kept mentioning how he becomes good friends with Sergio's ex'es (Mark being one), so he gave me email and phone number when headed to leave.
I need to get out more, again, but I am unsure if I can handle developing a social circle with all of Sergio's friends.

Hot
I was at the gym the other night, and my dark meat sensor started flashing. I look up at the TV, and there's a hot black guy and a hot latino guy making out! On ESPN!!
Upon closer scrutiny, it wasn't really making out... It was apparently a clip of some promo trash talking between Oscar de la Hoya and something-or-other Mayweather. They are apparently having a big boxing match soon, and HBO is trying desperately to get people to watch. So, they have produced some really involved show detailing the lives of the two boxers leading up to the big fight. Mayweather is actually really hot, but has that not-too-bright aura about him. (There is no audio when I see something on the gym TVs, so I can only go by facial cues.) De la Hoya, on the other hand, has been a favorite hottie for quite some time... They do apparently have little to no personal space issues!

Long shot
I had an interview tonight. Phone interview with the HR guy. Went poorly... And if it goes poorly with the HR office, it isn't likely to go better with the hiring manager. The company does castings of aerospace parts. I have little/no experience with casting or aerospace. And I'm not good at lying...
On the flip side, my interviews with Saint Gobain and Tiffany & Co. seemed to go really well, and neither of those went anywhere. Maybe I need to have a lousy preliminary interview.
And I got a call from the HR lady at another company that got my resume and wants to do a phone interview, as well. Maybe something will turn up, after all!
AND, someone from Match actually called back! There's a slim chance I might actually get to go on a first date before being rejected!
I guess it's worth taking a step back away from the ledge...

Buffet repercussions
Before heading to Vegas, I stepped on the scale at work, and saw 168. (If you've been following, that means I haven't budged in a couple months.) When I returned from Vegas, the scale said 170. I was not surprised. We did a few too many buffets while in the City of Sin. Sadly, overeating was probably the worst sin I was guilty of, but that's a different post...
Today, I stepped on that infernal scale again, and it responded with 167. Now, I should be happy to see it go down, but I am perplexed more than excited. Gaining 2 pounds while stuffing yourself silly for a week is believable. Losing 3 pounds in one week while eating healthily, and going to the gym regularly is a bit of a stretch. One pound - absolutely. Two pounds - maybe, depending on my water retention. Three?? That's 10,500 calories. That is equivalent to eating NOTHING for five days. I guarantee I ate a lot more than NOTHING.
Who all wants to bet that next Friday the scale will say 168 again?!?

Part 3: Vegas Vacation
In addition to spending time with the happy couple, I took a few more days off from work, and my friend Phil and I decided to stay in Vegas until Thursday. Neither of us had been to Vegas before, so it was a good opportunity to see the sights and get a full Vegas experience.
We did get our fill of casinos and buffets. Paris had the best buffet; I noticed an award on the wall, even. It was the most expensive, but at $25, they had by far the tastiest options, and the best cooking. We tried for the sit-down restaurants there, but one had an ungodly long wait, and the other had a dress code. The host counted three strikes without trying: t-shirts, shorts, and sneakers. MGM Grand had a good buffet, as well. The Luxor's was "actually, not that bad", as was the one at the Hilton. The Hilton's was free, though, which made it taste better...
We wandered through most of the major resorts. The Wynn and Bellagio were obviously the most glamorous. We didn't go to any of the secondary casinos. Even the Tropicana and Flamingo were getting more of a trailer trash clientèle, so we did not bother trying Bill's or Terrible's. The hottest guy of the trip was spotted heading to the pool at the Flamingo, though, so we did give that hotel a few bonus points. He was wearing a t-shirt with a big "24" on it, so he became known simply as "24".
Sunday we decided to head out to a gay club. Phil jumped on Manhunt to do a little research, and we ended up at 8 1/2. It was dead. There were literally 4 other people there. A few more would come in, look around for five seconds, and leave again. We had just agreed to leave for Gypsy (right next door), when the guy from Manhunt showed up. He had that desperate/hopeful look in his eye. He was "Suprised" how dead it was there. He never goes on Sundays, but has been there on other days of the week, and it's busy. Yeah. Great. He suggested Gypsy. Phil asked if it would be busier there (despite his obvious lack of authority on the subject), and he offered to drive us to Krave if Gypsy was dead, too. Mind you, that would have been a total of like 4 blocks. The cover at Gypsy was $7. Manhunt-loser-guy didn't offer to pay our covers for us. He tried talking to us for a little while longer, and I was looking extremely bored with him. I guess Phil started playing the South End attitude because all of a sudden the "smoke was getting to him" and he left.
Smoke is a problem in Vegas. We in Massachusetts are lucky to live in a smoke-free state. All enclosed public locations are smoke-free, except for a few cigar bars with special licenses. Clubs and bars make you go outside to smoke. It is a wonderful thing. Vegas has not passed any such laws. They do prohibit smoking in restaurants, so that is a good start. But the casino floor and any club are more toxic than we are used to.
Gypsy has a resident drag queen named Chanel, who is worth seeing. She did four sets that night. The first was kinda J-Lo, the next was slutty Pussy-Cat Doll, the third was very Lion-King shaman, and the fourth outfit was Pinhead from Hellraiser. NIN and Marylin Manson are not usual drag show songs, but she announced she's into "fucked-up shit" at the beginning of the show. The pageantry and energy were much better than anything I've seen since the glory days of Mizery back at Quest in the 90's. Wednesday we went to Lucky Cheng's drag dinner show. More of the sedate, strut around, kind. It was fairly dead, so it was hard to get the energy level up. There was a table full of straight people who were "shocked" by some of it. One of the performers was very believable as a woman. She is heading to Thailand I think it was for a contest. The straight guys were a little messed up by that one, because she was a beautiful woman, so they were into her, but she's not really a woman, so they were not sure they should be into her. Later that night we headed back (it's at Krave) for the wet boxers contest. Fun! I was SO ready to leave, though, when it ended. This random guy with his hag started chatting me up, though, and I was doing my best to push them away. They misinterpreted by disdain as not liking the club itself, and felt the need to cheer me up. Phil then started chatting up the guy, and they wouldn't leave. I was getting progressively more interested in leaving. The club was draining, and I was bored. The guy, however, turned out to be a possible good work contact for Phil, so I was forced to wait through a prolonged schmooze. We did eventually leave, though. Like 3:15...
The crowds at the gay clubs were pretty similar to what you see anywhere else. There was one hottie at Krave, but Phil thinks he's a prostitute. I was getting more of a drug dealer vibe. But, he smoked. There was a 99% chance of that, anyway. As Phil said, the gays in Vegas have apparently "not gotten the memo". Just about every single one of them smokes. There was one cute guy at Gypsy, and yes, he smoked, too. He seemed to be married to a sugar daddy, as well. So, the viewing pleasure of the trip was held by the employees. Phil totally fell for "barback". He was more bussing than barbacking, but Phil didn't like me calling him "busboy". Great body, cute face, and wearing glasses. Phil feels he's a PhD student! The bartenders were also quite hot. Krave had a cute bartender, but he looked a little too much like 19 years old. The shotboy, however, was cover-model gorgeous. We all agreed (yes, including schmooze-guy and fag hag) that he is straight, though. He wouldn't admit to anything either way, like a good tip-receiving shotboy, but we KNEW.
In addition to clubs and casinos, we did go to Hoover Dam. Cool place. It's a very interesting side trip to take. There was even a cute guy in the tour group to hold our interest! It short, it is a massively huge slab of concrete, so there isn't a whole LOT to see there, but it was a nice break from the noise and lights.
We also went to see Zumanity, the adult-only Cirque du Soleil show. Good show, hot guys, too many breasts, and one creepy contortionist with no ligaments. The gay kiss got the most awkward applause of the show. The lesbian kiss was much more widely accepted. I had a thing for the Pan character, which is who everyone guessed I would like. We wanted to see "O" as well, but never connected. And we went to get tickets for Rita Rudner one day, and she had decided not to perform that day. The ticket lady said she is that way; her schedule is more random - just whenever she feels like it. So, we missed that as well.
We did a spa day, as well. Neither of us had a hot guy as our masseur, but mine at least did deep tissue massage with a little force behind it. Also got facials. It was rather windy out, though, and I got pelted in the face with sand/dirt blowing off construction areas. There is a LOT of construction on the strip. I don't know how usual that is, but there had to be ten different construction sites along the strip.
I had been told that three days is about the max for a Vegas trip. Between the wedding and being my first time, I figured we'd be fine. It was definitely a long trip, and we were running low on interest in casinos and buffets, but we had things we didn't get to see, so there is still reason to go back. Our last night in town, we were playing $5 blackjack at Tropicana. We stayed a little too long, and burned through a little too much cash because the dealer, Kostika, was kind of cute. Phil guessed he's Greek, which I can see, but we never asked. It was a good trip, I had a lot of fun, and will go back some day, I am sure!
