Charter stole Project Runway!

So, I have not had my own TV since I moved out at the end of August. That means on Wednesdays I have been going over to Ronny's so we can watch our weekly Project Runway fix. Tonight I get to Ronny's place, and he says there's something wrong with the TV - it's showing the wrong channel.

Instead of fierce fabulousness, we were subjected so some "TruTV" show about morons acting stupid on camera. Ronny wanted me to reset the channel programming. I knew that wouldn't help, but did it anyway. Meanwhile, pulled up Charter's listing online, and it still showed Bravo. When it came back, we put on the TV Guide channel (so THAT's what that channel is for!!), and no Bravo. Googled it, and found a number of people posting complaints about the recent 'channel changes' bumping Bravo into the higher cost tier.

So, now I have to call my friend with full digital cable and DVR, and ask him to save the show for us so we can watch it. I was going to ask him anyway, while I am in HK, but now we have to track down the "lost" episode from tonight, too! One more reason Charter sucks!

Internet bill

Once again, I did not get a bill for the cable-broadband. Tuesday night I tried to pull up my account online and check, but they also changed the online rules. You can't just pop into your account, you have to create a user profile now. The profile requires a 'secret code' off your paper bill. I don't have one. So, I called their automated phone line Wednesday. The statement date was 11/27/07. I have not gotten any bill. Not even the email notice they used to send. So, I was able to send a credit card payment over the phone, so this month won't go past due. But I figured out how I could have missed a July AND a September payment. No bill for July, past-due bill for August, no bill for September, past-due bill for October, no bill for November. It's developing a decent pattern here. Unfortunately for them, I paid this month already...

Bad News

I got my bill today for internet service from the cable company. Back in August, I got a bill for two months that said I was PAST DUE for August. Now, I NEVER miss paying a bill, so I could not believe this to be true, but was unable to prove otherwise. So, I sent in two month's worth. In September, I never got a bill at all. This was strange, so I pulled up the account, and it said I had $0 balance, and was paid until November. I assumed this meant the morons found the July payment they thought I missed, so doubling up in August put me a month ahead. Today's bill again says I am PAST DUE. I do now know if they f&#^'ed up September or both or everything, or what the bloody hell is going on. I will just send in a double payment, and let it go. Next month I am going to send them money, whether they ask for it not!

Other bad news today, the hottie at work, referred previously as "O" has gone to boot camp. Army. It's kinda sad... I hope he comes back alive.

Wireless

Ronny called Thursday night to ask for my help setting up his internet connection. The cable guy had just installed the modem, but Ronny couldn't get the wireless to work. (His previous DSL connection used a single combo unit that had modem and router in the same little box, so he was confused that the little box wasn't working wirelessly.)

He was still finishing up at work when he called, and I had to go to the gym, yet. He said he'd call when he got home and I could come over and help set it up. He then said it would be a chance to see Junio again. I mentioned the pre-existing BF, and Ronny said that Junio has no boyfriend. I asked for clarification and was told that they broke up a couple weeks ago. I mentioned that Kevin was there at Junio's birthday party, and it looked like they were still together. Ronny said they were still friends, and had not told people, yet, so were still putting on the show of being together.

I went to the gym and ogled a couple cuties, then came home and showered. I had a spare wireless router lying around, so I brought that over to Ronny's house. I had him do the install himself, though I helped out a lot. He has been doing a lot of tech support stuff for his other Brazilian friends, and I've been pushing him to learn to do some of this stuff on his own. Basically, install stuff amounts to following the instructions on the screen, so mostly I had to make him slow down enough to follow the instructions. We got it all set up, but Ronny was the only one home. He said to just wait a bit, Junio would be home soon. I had a donut and he turned on the TV.

About 10:30 Junio came home. He's looking a little darker, as well, as the summer progresses, and was quite sexy as he walked in the door... Explained we were setting up internet, and he assumed that his would just 'work' now, too. I had him turn his computer on, and I checked his network connection settings, and he has no wireless card. He said he would buy one this weekend, so I suggested I come along to make sure he gets the right one. He seemed to like that idea!

We all hung out, chatted, looked at pictures, and Ronny got his Itunes back up and running again. I asked Junio how Kevin is doing. He said he's fine, in fact he just saw him on Tuesday. So, I asked if he stays over at Kevin's, or if Kevin stays here. I figured this was a subtle way of opening the door for him to say they were no longer together. He responded that he stays at Kevin's because Kevin lives alone, like me. Not sure if there was a "reason" to specify the 'like me' part... Junio also went to the trouble of showing me pics - somewhat buried in his computer files - of the previous ex whom he still pines for. I've seen the guy around the club, and Ronny has even tried to hook up with him.

All of a sudden I noticed it was midnight! I had an A/C contractor coming in at 8am, so wasn't going to work in the morning and could sleep in a little later than usual, but midnight was still pushing it, so I said goodnight. Junio said he would call on Saturday after work about going to the store. I suggested I give him my phone number. Then he gave me his number, and when I verified the spelling of his name, discovered I have been doing it wrong. His name is Jose, but so is his father, so he is a Junior, and has adopted the name. (Technically, the Portuguese version would be Junho, not Junio, anyway.) So, he really is an American sounding name, kind of like Ronny is, too. From now on, he will be referred to as Junior. Of course, with the "H" sound that the Portuguese "R" has, it doesn't sound that much different.

Delay

I have been off-line for a few days, thanks to our pals at Charter High-Speed.

When I first signed up, they installed all the stuff, and left a little white modem box. Very soon after, I had connectivity issues. They insisted the modem was fine. I called back a few weeks later with more problems, and again insisted the modem was fine.

This week I had no internet again, so I called their customer service. They accessed the modem through the line, and discovered that the modem was malfunctioned. So, they told me to take it to the local office and swap it for a new one. After waiting in line behind the trailer trash who wait until they have $200 bill with late fees accumulated, I get to the agent, and she informs me that the modem is WELL beyond the warranty period, and she can't swap it out. Turns out the free install package includes a free crap modem that you 'own' from that point on. So, they brushed me off while it was new, so they wouldn't have to pay for a real one. Now that the warranty is "WELL" over, they are more than happy to sell me another (better) one.

If you ever have issues with your cable modem, make sure to get it swapped out RIGHT AWAY. If you wait, they will be glad to tell you it's a piece of junk once you are then required to pay them more for a decent replacement.
